CoffeeCompany WiFi headlines.

Holland’s largest chain of coffee shops is called CoffeCompany. They wanted to attract more students, so they installed WiFi in some of its stores near universities. The problem is, lots of students just come into the store for the WiFi but hardly look at the menu.

So CoffeeCompany decided to move the store’s menu into the WiFi menu of customers’ laptops. They periodically changed the wireless network name from the normal “CoffeeCompany” to hard-selling headlines. So as students looked for a network, they found menu lines such as “mmm….YummyMuffinsOnly1,99″

Agency: They Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

I’d love to see more clever, fun marketing like this!

In 1732 Bach composed “The Coffee Cantata” to parody the increasing paranoia Germans had regarding coffee addiction.

Although I’m not really a “New Year, New You” type of person,

there are a few things I’d like to do in the next year. Living in NYC for the past few months has been amazing, but I haven’t been taking full advantage of it. That being said, it can be quite overwhelming to dive into, so I want to focus on one thing in the next year: coffee. I love coffee, but my knowledge of it is limited. I want to spend this year sampling the best coffee in the city, learning about brewing, cultivating, exporting and importing coffee, and try my hand at being a barista. I think that pursuing the culture of coffee in the city will lead me to other cultural experiences organically. My love for coffee will always be just for me, it’s not something I want to pursue as a career, so it seems like the perfect focus for an exciting, enlightening new year.

Bottoms up!

Coffee: Temperature vs. Time. This has bugged me for awhile so I made a little graph of how my coffee behaves (where above the top dotted line = “way too fucking hot” and below the bottom dotted line = “way too fucking cold;” therefore ‘A’ = pleasant drinking interval = approx. 15.3 seconds.)

Excellent illustration of the phenomenon.

"We believe roasting is a delicate craftsmanship, little short of an art form, that must be mastered with the use of all senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch and gut feeling."

Japanese Tea Latte (via Lam’s Photo)
Mmm…this looks so much like a Matcha Chai Latte, which can apparently only be acquired at the Cafe run by Starbucks in the Stamp Student Union at University of Maryland. It is the most delicious thing I have ever consumed and some days honestly consider driving from NJ to MD just to get one. It is THAT good people.

French Press Replacement Carafe FAIL

I’m going to die. No, not figuratively. Replacement carafe arrived for my French press. Universal replacement carafe, mind you. Fits most. Most, but not all. Like, not MINE. I NEED MY FRENCH PRESSED COFFEE. This is bad people.

I couldn’t find my tea strainer, and knocked over my french press in a frenzy of searching,

and broke the carafe. I almost had a BF*, but thanks to the beauty of the internet I’ve already ordered a new one which will arrive on Friday.
